I've been on DK for awhile now, and am thinking about "going public". I've enjoyed participating in the DK community anonymously, and have kept diaries of real world experiences vague enough to make it hard to connect my DK identity with myself. That's been a comfortable role for me, because it's allowed me to write on DK without having to worry too much about what I write here affecting my real-world life.
That sounds a bit paranoid, but I am generally cautious about how I present myself. I prefer to have control over who I am in different roles and environments. But recently I've been thinking more about connecting my DK persona with what I'm doing in the real world. I'm involved in several local environmental initiatives where I'm working on interesting and challenging projects. They're pretty small-bore, but I'd like to start having more specific discussions on DK about the work I'm doing, because I consider DK an important community, a place to share ideas and inspiration, and ask for support and guidance.
So the main question of this diary is what are your thoughts and experiences on "going public"? Are there any negatives? Advice on making the transition?
